Why mobile money comes first on Klozapp
September 9, 2026
A lot of products default to card payments and treat other methods as an afterthought, bolted on later for whichever market asks loudest. Klozapp started from the other direction: mobile money is how most people actually pay for things day to day where we operate, so it had to work from the start, not eventually.
That’s a design decision, not a limitation — card payments are part of the plan too, for the fans and creators who prefer them. Mobile money coming first just means it was never treated as the exception.
Either way, the same rule applies: Klozapp never holds your money. Every payment — whichever method brought it in — is collected and released by a licensed payment processor, not by us directly.
That’s what "built for Africa first" actually means in practice: designing around the payment method people already use, instead of assuming a card and hoping the rest works out.
